The Aiguille du Midi (3,842 m) is a mountain in the Mont Blanc massif in the French Alps. The name "Aiguille du Midi" translates literally as "Needle of the South". It is said to be so called because of its position due south of Chamonix. (Midi also means "Noon"). First ascent 4 August 1818 by Antoni Malczewski, J. M. Balmat and 5 guides.
