Tain'anmen Square in the 1930's. parts of the foreign legation quarter can be seen on the right and on the left Chiang Kaishek Nationalist Part headquarters. All of this was torn down when Chairman Mao made the largest square in the world: The 40 hectare Tiananmen Square as we know it today.
